Welcome to the Santarossa Lab in the Department of Biochemistry and Biophysics at the University of North Carolina Chapel Hill. Cells use specialized protein machinery, analogous to ferries, bridges and tunnels, to perform inter-organelle lipid transport, but their mechanisms remain poorly understand. We use cutting-edge structural and cell biology approaches to examine how lipids are transported between organelles. Our work has implications to infectious disease, cancer, and neurodegenerative disorders.
